■Commentary
Several parks bearing the names of Keifuen’s former directors and doctors, including Kozuma Memorial Park, Miyazaki Memorial Park, and Kumamaru Memorial Park, have been developed on the east side of the sanatorium. When spring comes, these parks offer visitors beautiful views of blooming cherry blossoms.
The land on which Keifuen sits was originally a deep forest of Japanese cypress trees. Wanting to turn such a rather gloomy and desolate place into their final home, the sanatorium’s residents reclaimed the land and continually planted new trees, striving to transform Keifuen into an uplifting and comfortable place to live. This sight is an achievement shaped by such a history.
