In the summer of 2021 the Niseko Railway Heritage Group was set up next to JR Niseko Station as an area to preserve historical railway relics. In addition to bringing in the turntable for the C62 Niseko, Japan’s largest steam locomotive, a 9643 model steam locomotive was also relocated here from its previous location at the Sapporo Beer Garden. In the fall of 2020, the resort train Niseko Express was also preserved here. This locomotive was retired in 2017 after bringing in crowds of tourists to Niseko over the years. If it wasn’t for a successful crowdfunding campaign that inspired donations from all around the country, we wouldn’t have been able to bring the Niseko Express back to Niseko. We are forever thankful to all of you who helped make the Niseko Railway Heritage Group a reality.
