Arishima Takeo, an integral writer for the Shirakaba journal, cited this hill in his later work, Parent and Child (Oyako). This hill, which is included in one of the Niseko footpath courses, is also said to have been a part of Arishima Takeo’s strolls. The start of the trail is located at a forest just beyond the train tracks. To reach it, walk upstream along the Shiribetsu River from the JR Niseko Station and cross the railway tracks until the sign for Oka-no-Saka comes into view. At the top of the hill, you will be able to enjoy an expansive view of the Arishima area and majestic Mount Yotei. Why not have a stroll through history and walk in Takeo’s footsteps?
