16.Arishima Takeo Memorial Museum
■Commentary
Arishima Takeo is a prominent novelist in modern Japanese literature who imbued Niseko residents with the unerring spirit of mutual aid. In addition to creating novels such as The Descendants of Cain (Kain no Matsuei), The Agony of Coming Into the World (Umarezuru Nayami), and A Certain Women (Aru Onna), he also contributed greatly to the development of Niseko by giving away his agricultural lands to farm labourers. Even though his life ended prematurely at the age of 45-years-old, his legacy is forever commemorated at this museum through exhibitions on the history of Arishima Farm, letters, documents and books. This museum also functions as an event space for concerts and exhibitions. You can also have a delicious cup of coffee while enjoying the beautiful, open landscape at the onsite book café.
