02.Yoshimuta Kogen Midori no Mura
■Commentary
Spread out along the foot of Mt. Aso’s outer rim, in an area with an elevation of between 600 and 700 meters above sea level, the Yoshimuta Kogen Midori no Mura is where lush green plains extend as far as the eye can see and a place to enjoy the nightscape of Kumamoto City when the sun goes down.
Here, a diverse range of outdoor facilities is available for visitors to try out, including glamping and camping grounds and mountain bike courses. The Hoshi no Mori Villa glamping resort, built on top of a hill in the highlands, is a particularly popular attraction.
Guests here can gaze at the star-filled night sky through the skylight in the domed guestrooms while enjoying some tranquility that can’t be experienced in the city. This villa, where those who come can savor some luxurious downtime, is perfect for novice campers, families, and other travelers.
Visitors can also try grass skiing on a sled down a 100-meter slope that takes advantage of the area’s natural gradient. Or, for the more active ones, how about trying your hand at cycling through an authentic mountain bike course that was used during heats at the Tokyo Olympics?
